MPI Beginnings 12/02

Thursday 12 February

Today began the journey of discovery around Mathematical practices and the profile of a good mathematician.
I have discovered it will be an ongoing journey. Dorothy explained this visual in such a way that it will be a great reminder that we can use what we know alongside what we are learning and in the right contexts this will support mathematical learning stay on track into the future.

A Great resource that I want to work with and develop in my classroom is the Ground Rules for Talk.

This visual is a vital reminder that connections need to be made in all areas but especially to the real world and to everyday maths. It is vital to give the children opportunities to find their connections (through their contexts) and develop their own understanding. Connecting and developing programmes that integrate maths rather than teaching independently.

* My learning focus is to understand where my learners think they are as mathematicians and what they think makes a good mathematician. Identifying where we find maths in everyday life.
* To develop communication through math talk, enabling and extending and using the 'Pillars of Maths' to guide planning and lessons.
