What Kind of Mathematicians are we?
Student Survey
This survey was well received by the students of Mamaku 1. They enjoyed the discussions around the questions and results.
When reflecting on the results I found that the class has a lot of confident mathematicians. The students that are not as confident are participating in the 'Talk' groups. This is enabling them to feel included, listen to ideas and strategies and build up their confidence to start sharing their thinking.
What Kind of Mathematician are we?
We have implemented the Rules for 'Talk'. All students are engaging in rich maths tasks, and these rules have supported the rich discussions. Students that weren't engaged now have a voice and are being invited to share their thinking or solutions.
Kia ora Racheal,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your noticings from the survey and the discussions with your class. It’s great to see that many students already see themselves as confident mathematicians, and that the 'Talk Groups' are helping quieter learners listen to ideas and begin to share their own thinking. I hope practising the Ground Rules and Talk Moves will help grow extended maths discussions in your class! The positive learning environment and strong relationships you’ve built with your learners (ka pai!) give you a great foundation for implementing your MPI learning:)
Have fun teaching maths!
Nga mihi
